Christ-Centered Educators

As a teacher, you pass on the knowledge and values of our culture, from the mathematics that governs physics to a lens to study great literature. To become an effective educator, you must master both knowledge and teaching strategies so all students can learn. And while creating a safe, supportive, learning community, you also need to coach students to become critical thinkers and life-long learners.

The College of Education focuses on the intellectual development of the student, while being attentive to the ideals of character, servant leadership, and cultural engagement. A holistic Christian approach also requires the college to give attention to other aspects of the student’s total development by providing opportunities for physical, social, and spiritual growth.

At AU you’ll be encouraged to emulate the greatest teacher of all: Jesus Christ. With Him as the model, we teach you pedagogy as well as how to cultivate the patient, caring heart you’ll need to inspire students.

In addition to our emphasis on bringing Christian caring into the classroom, our undergraduate and graduate programs expose you to the perfect mix of educational theory and practice. Within the first year of our bachelor’s degree programs, students begin their field experiences working in schools with veteran educators in teaching and planning in public schools.

A school district superintendent, principals, and veteran, award-winning teachers are among our hundred of education grads. Accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), all our bachelor’s degrees are designed to lead to initial teacher licensure through the South Carolina State Department of Education. The state of South Carolina holds reciprocity agreements with most states in the country.
